Either they made a poor decision in editing out Lt. Saavik's background (according to Wikipedia), or Kristie Alley plays a very lousy Vulcan.
I get the feeling if I had seen this movie when it first came out without knowing what the third movie was going to be, I'd be downright pissed kicking and screaming.
